 The Tree Trunk Collection

For years we have been roaming around villages in South Rajasthan looking for the ancient trees that have died and are used locally for firewood. These are different kinds  ofnative hardwoods that have incredible grain and form due to the harsh climate. Having found them they are planked and left to dry naturally. This takes a number of years and in the process they assume their own form. When they are seasoned  we let each plank tell its own story.

The Living Plank Bench Collection

Our own intervention is to stabilise the possibility of further movement with the butterfly joint that was the signature of the celebrated furniture maker, George Nakashima, and who is a great inspiration to us.

The spindle back and the simple legs in various combinations become the bench series, in different sizes. Many stages of polishing and oiling have revealed the unique nature of each plank. The more these benches are used the richer they will become! The generous scale of the benches mean that they can be used in different ways, and most of all, they invite company.
